Operation Military Support members were invited to participate in the Veterans Day Parade in Sacramento on November 8, 2003. We organized our small group, and with Rob Carter's large military troop carrier, we rolled into line with the rest of the participants on the streets of Sacramento. June Downum and her sister, Shirley Smith, walked in front of the military transport vehicle holding the Operation Military Support banner, followed by Rob Carter and his son Jacob in the cab, and Kiss Anderson and her two grandsons, Brandon and Zachary, on the bed of the truck. The truck was decorated with many American flags, and a large banner on the sides of the truck spelled out that OMS needed to bring Christmas to the troops. Although there were not very many people watching the parade, several veterans watching from the sidewalks saluted us, and the cheers and the welcome we received was heartwarming. OMS received a "Certificate of Participation Award" from the Veterans Affiliated Council and a letter of thanks from the Mayor of Sacramento for taking part in the parade.
